This style flag was unveiled at the ceremony marking the technical handover of power from the Coalition Provisional Authority occupation forces to the U.S.-appointed administration on 28 June 2004. It was similar to the previous Iraqi flag, but as a compromise, Saddam Hussein's handwriting was removed from the center of the flag, and the takbīr was rendered in traditional stylized Kufic script.
