ROSS LONDON 8602 COMPOUND MICROSCOPE MAHOGANY CASE COPPER & BRASS FINISH C. 1900

Regular price $475.00

Very attractive, good quality Ross London compound microscope, 1895-1900. Unusual copper and brass finish with all plating and lacquer in good original condition, very shiny and has not been polished. Marked on the base "Ross London 8602." In mahogany carrying case with brass handle. (I am told the case is a later replacement unit.)

Stands about 12" high in its closed position, 16 1/4" extended. Rackwork coarse focus with unusual calibrated micrometer style fine focus knob on the top of the column. Mechanical rack and pinion stage, with X and Y adjustments, plano/concave mirror, on a U-shaped base. Slide clips on the square stage.

Triple nosepiece with three original Ross objectives. There are two eyepieces, seemingly unmarked but one is possibly Ross and the other Bausch and Lomb.

The carrying case is also in good condition with handle and smoothly functioning hinges, but the lock is missing. The case contains the second eyepiece, as well as metal tubes (empty) for additional eyepieces and vial of cypress oil. Case measures approx. 14" x 8" x 6 1/4".

A very nice, rare microscope in overall very good to excellent condition.
